When God forgives us of our sins, is he done with us? Do we just keep sinning and he just keeps forgiving us? Or, does God also change us? Is it really possible to change? And if I do change, is it God working in me to change me or is it up to ME to change me? Or both? If I am a Christian and I’m supposed to change then why does it feel impossible to change? And, is God mad at me for not changing? These are questions that every Christian struggles with in the church. The good news is the Bible reveals that Jesus is with us in our doubts and disappointments and failures leading us by the power of his Holy Spirit to real change, real growth in this life. This is called sanctification. The Westminster Shorter Catechism #35: “What is sanctification? Sanctification is the work of God’s free grace, whereby we are renewed in the whole man after the image of God, and are enabled more and more to die unto sin, and live unto righteousness.” Join us Sunday mornings as our Bible study works through passages like Jesus walking on water, Jesus casting out demons, Gideon and the fleece, and more to understand this thing of SANCTIFICATION and how we grow and change with God.
